female pitts can have periods?

is it true females pitts can have a period like a human female?

Pit Bulls are physically the same as other dogs- they do go into heat twice a year.  It lasts around 3 weeks and there is swelling of the vulva and some bleeding.  You should keep her away from male dogs to prevent breeding.  If you get her spayed, she won't have a heat cycle anymore and won't bleed.
