Trash

Question
I have had my GiGi for several years now. She is an awsome dog with a wonderful temperment with people. The only problem that i have ever had with her is i cant seem to keep her out of the trash. Ihave tried scolding her, making her stay outside, etc. She knows she has done wrong as she crawls on the ground when i get home and has the saddest look on her face. Is there any way to train her to keep away from the trash?

Answer
hi,

this is a very common problem, and i have gone through it  myself with my dog. He is always going thru the trash to dig some junk food, that he can eat. On occasion he will eat all the chicken bones out of the trash.

the one easy solution i have found, is to make the trash inaccessible to him. Maybe you should give that a try. Put it somewhere he cant get it. Say garage or inside or something of that sort.

You could also make it an unpleasant experience. Fill a empty coke can with pennies and everytime he goes near the bad shake it violently. That sound is very unpleasing to dogs. And also give him a firm no. He will also know that she has done wrong, because she has her head down.

You could also spray the trash with apple crisp which dogs hate as well. If this doesnt work, my best bet is to just put it where he cant get it.

If this is not the answer that you were looking for, than i am sorry. But i hope it helps,

as this is a general dog question, not a pitbull question. You should feel free to ask other experts in different dog categories here on this site.
