Rough Paw Pads

Question
My year and a half old yellow lab has extremely rough paw pads.  We walk him a couple of times per day on grass and the smooth street.  The pads are so rough that it hurts you when he puts them on you.  What can I do?

Answer
It is possible he is not getting enough fat in his diet.  That is unlikely if you are feeding one of the more expensive brands.  Many of them have too much fat if anything.  If your are feeding a more economical chow, you could try a table spoon of ordinary liquid cooking oil.

Otherwise, maybe hand lotion.  Rub it in good so he can't lick it off.
