6 Month Old Chocolate Lab

Question
My Chocolate Lab, Cocoa, is 6 months old and weighs about 55 pounds. My vet says she is normal, and I can feel her ribs. But I am worried that she is going to be over weight. She eats 1 1/2 - 2 cups of food in the morning, 1 cup or so in the afternoon and 1 1/2 - 2 cups of food at night for dinner. She runs a lot and plays. I am worried she will be over weight though. How should I adjust her diet? Should I feed her twice a day instead?
And, she is still afraid of water. I take her to the creek and walk in it with her but she wont go in parts that touch her belly or higher. Is it normal? How do I get her to stop being afraid?
Thank you for your time.
Sam

Answer
Just keep track of her ribs and feed more or less as needed.  What you are feeding does sound a little high, but the final word isn't me, but your judgment of her ribs.  Here is a great guide,  http://www.longliveyourdog.com/twoplus/RateYourDog.aspx  Yes, youcan cut back to 2 meals or even 1.

Yes, I have had Labs that didn't like the water.  I have sent them off to dog guide school that way and they never complained about it.  I am not sure what to say.  I think going in with her is a good idea.  Make like you are having a really good time and keep up a happy patter.  Give her plenty of time.  If she doesn't go in any further one day, try again another day.  Also try throwing sticks out further and further.
