Question
hello, i was just wondering about what kind of a recovery time i should expect for my dog and i was also concerned about what different activities he should or shouldnt be doing? thanks alot

Answer
Hello Mike thanks for your question. For my male dog (a   Jack russell terrier 8 months old at time of neuter) was very groggy the first day home but it was expected he cuddle on his new blanket/throw i'd bought him for the surgery and walked like a cowboy whenever he moved around....funny but not at the same time. For the first two days I had thorught they just tied tubes and left his testicals there this is how swollen he was....I dont rember him being on pain meds and for dogs they say its better to not have pain meds becaue if they dog doenst feel pain it may be too active and jumping arounnd ect ect and tear open teh stiches which is very true. My jack russell never needed a cone but my female labrador reteriver did it all depends on the dog. After 1 week the dog should be fully back to normal and funtioning normaly with a female dog the recovering time is about 14 days to be back to normal fully but with a male they are walking fairly normal the next day it just takes 7 days for the scar to heal over. THe stiches should disolve or flal out on there own. He should be allowed to jump into or outof high jeeps or trucks for the first week...not allowed to be taken for runs or jogs...he wouldnt be up to it anyway as with each step you come a shot of pain. If he is having truble with stairs surely he will be you can cart him up them....surely you can carry him even if he is 80 or 90 pounds. If he sleeps in your bed and its rather high boosting him up is a good idea or picking him up adn putting him in all together. If you ever need to pick him up make sure you put your hands under his stomach and under his front legs you dont watn to accidently touch his wound area. If the vet doenst give you a cone and you see him picking at himself the day after go and get one it wont hela if he is licking it constantly. Thats about it oh and he may feel like vomiting the day of his surgery...he may not want food or water when he gets home the vets will tell you but all three of my dogs drank and ate as soon as they got home and held it down as well. My male dog seemed to need to pee alot after the surgery so be sure your home to let him out offen. Also be sure he is kept warm as he wont be able to regulate his body temprature for the first 24/48 hours after the surgery so having him laying in a nice cozy bed...yours or his when he gets back would be perfect and not leaving him on a cold floor or in a basement would be awsome.
