Husky vs. Lab

Question
I have a male 3 year old husky mix, Blue,  who we got from a shelter when he was 9 months old.  The shelter suspects he'd been abused since he cowers away if you go to pet him too quickly.  We recently got our black lab mix, Maggie, who at 4 months is the least dominant dog possible.  She lays on her back whenever another dog comes up, showing no signs of aggression.  In the backyard, Blue is great with Maggie, chasing her around, and playing.  In the house, he hates her.  If they're in the same room, he snarls his teeth at her, growls, etc.  He wants nothing to do with her.  Of the two dogs, he's clearly the leader and she's clearly the submissive one.  Is this something he'll grow out of?  Or is there some way I can get him to trust her in the house?

Answer
He has not had the socialization he should have.  That is hard to undo.  More time may make a big difference.  Better leadership on your part should help too.  Dogs see all the people and dogs in the household as a pack with each having their own rank in the pack and a top dog.  Life is much easier if the 2 legged pack members outrank the 4 legged ones.  You can learn to play the role of top dog by reading some books or going to a good obedience class. A good obedience class or book is about you being top dog, not about rewarding standard commands with a treat.
