Question
I have a 2 year old lab who really loves everyone. But we have to hold him by his collar or lock him in the bathroom when people come over. He gets really excited and goes berzerk. Are there any simple ways to stop him from jumping?

Answer
This is common, but it's not a simple fix.  Have you gone to obedience class with him yet?  If not, I would definitely enroll ASAP.  And let the trainer know that jumping on people is an issue.

The dog is getting rewarded when it jumps by getting the attention it seeks.  So you will have to find a training routine that suits both you, the dog, your family and your friends that come over.  It can be putting your knee up to block him.  It could be ignoring him and turning your back on him when he jumps.  It could be teaching him SIT, when people come to the door.

There are many links on-line to help.  Here is one:  http://www.awla.org/dog-jumping.shtml

Just google "Teach a dog not to jump on you" and you'll get alot of hits.

We tend to mimic alot of what Cesar Milan does when he claims the door and I'll also put my knee up on out boys who are strong.

But if this is something you have never trained any dog to overcome, I do recommend going to a training class.

Good Luck.
