inheriting a yellow lab

Question
Hi. my neighbors/friends of 7 years are moving tomorrow and they do not have room for all their pets where they are going...it is somewhat by choice and partly necessity. Anyway, they asked me if I could take their Dog.  I a love animals and my black lab Sydney, passed away this past March.  It was really a "no-brainer" for me, I love the dog and could not see it going to another home. They also have three Chihuahua's and they all get along, pretty well.  She is almost like the mother figure for them.  Do you have an idea of what I am in for?  Depression, anxiety...etc? I know they were not overly close with the dog, but they did have her for 6 years and rescued her when she was a year or two. Do you have any tips to help make the transition easier?  I have no problem spending time and walking her...not an issue there!  Thanks for your help!

Answer
Are you just taking the lab or all the dogs?

I think in either case, the best thing to do is set up a routine, and stick to that until the dog adjusts.  If they weren't that close with the lab anyway, it may end up preferring spending time with you anyway.

I just think that as soon as you can set up a routine including meals, playing, and walks, the dog will see that you are in charge and not give you any problems.
