Question
I have a 12 year old Lab that has bad arthitis. He doesnt walk very well. He never barks but has been barking for the past two nights. His eyes are glassy like he may even be going blind. His hearing has not been very good. I dont know why he could be barking/yelping. I know it cant be fleas... he has the monthly treatment. He does have a skin allergy that we are treating. I give him an aspirin everyday for his arthritis. I know he is old but I hate to put him to sleep. I guess I hate to loose him so I am being selfish. But I dont want to put him to sleep if there is something I can do for him. I dont want him to suffer. I know he is barking for a reason but I dont know what I can do for him.

Answer
Look for something in his environment that could have changed, strange, new noises at night?  The only other thing would be a vet visit.  could even be a tumor that could be removed.  Vets have better pain remedies than aspirin.  My one dog was on Roboxin his last year or 2.  Do not try any of the other OTC pain remedies such as Tynenol or Advill.  They could kill him.  Something from the vet could give him another good year or 2.

It is just tough.  I had my 12 year old at the river today.  She didn't seem to want to chase the sticks she always loved.
