Question
I have a Labrador retriever (4 months old) and along with many other things that he is doing that is not acceptable, he just recently have been soiling on my children's beds. (both peeing and soiling). The other things that he is doing such as nipping at my children (4 boy's), which I am working on, and potty training him. I just don't know why he is doing this and I really need some help as far as making him stop that behavior. Please help. :0)

Answer
Yes, this is completely normal for a dog this age. Do not try hiring a professional! It would be just a waste of time and money. The puppies mind, just like a human babies, is not fully developed. You should start by putting out a flat hand, and then curl the fingers a bit, but not too much that it's a fist. Now, the next time this happens, put your hand into that position and nudge the puppy, firmly, but not too hard, just to get it's attention. It's like getting nipped by a dog, and shows the dog that this kind of behavior is unacceptable. Then follow it up with a firm, loud, and fast "choot". Don't expect this to work the first time. Repeat every time the dog does this. Also, never let him jump on you. When you talk and walk around him. Walk with your shoulders back and speak in a deep voice. If he jumps on you, do not push him down. This just encourages the behavior. By the dog jumping on you, you encourage the behavior. Use dog psychology, not human phychology. I highly recommend you buy the book " Cesar's Way" by Cear Millan. You can get it at www.Amazon.com. As the dog gets older, go to a nearby Petsmart and sign him up for puppy classes. Hope this helped!
