Heat cycles

Hi, we have a new black lab bitch. our vet has advised that she will come in heat between 7 and 12 months and that after she stops bleeding she will be fertile fro 5 days. we don't know how long she will bleed for and the total time she will be fertile. this is important because we have a complete dog and don't want her breeding when so young.

Well the best thing to do is when you see your male coming around her more trying tomount or odd behavier from her...ie very clingy trying to get to the male dog...rubbing around on the carpet ect ect seprate the dogs until she is done her cycle...wait until the male is no longer interested. I've seen dogs breed when the female is still having bloody discharge.
