Husky Seizures

Question
I have a 10 year old Husky named Rufus. When he was three he had his first siezure. His pattern at first, seizures for a week at a time. Once it went on for 19 days. Every three months, like clock work almost always at the end of every third month. He will have a siezure deficate, urinate, salivate, then get up and pase around in the mess. I blocked him off a room in the basement with the concrete floor so its easy for me to clean up after him. Sounds ridiculous uh?
After a week of this he slowly comes out of it. Acting like a new born puppy, then slowly gets back to himself and then into depression, then seizures again.
I read were humans have siezures but dont recall the act. So I figure he dont know whats happening it is not going to hurt him.
I got him on Potassium Br. and it seemed to help. At the same time we moved to another house. So I dont know if its the new house or the meds but he did not have any seizures for over a year. Now its back again, he had them this last January only for a day and a half. I was fine with that. Now this March 11 Hes got them again. Today is the 14 th and he is coming out of them now.
I don't have the nerve to put him to sleep. At the vets he runs when they take the needles out of there wrapper for blood test and it turns into a wrestling match. It really makes me laugh. The vet crew has to corner him and hold him down just to get a blood test. But I know this, there is no way I'm gonna wrestle him to his death. He is such a well mannered dog.
Has anyone ever heard of this. I know anyone else would put him down. I'm starting to question my behavior

Answer
Hi Terry,
Sadly when dealing with pets we sometimes have to make very hard decisions. I know exactly where you are coming from right now. I have heard of huskies having seizures of this nature. Though in those cases the dog died suddenly very soon after, it was the precursor to a greater problem. I do not know a lot about them to help you sadly. But you are probably right he does not remember this lost time. Its always so hard to decide when the dog is in most ways "healthy" to put him down. I had one such dog who was so afraid of vets I had little choice but to sit at home with her while she passed away of leukemia at the age of 10. I wish there was more I could say and help you with. I know how the indecision feels. Sorry I could not be of more help.
