QuestionHave you been able to let your huskies off leash in an open area or during walks?
Is it possible to achieve this with training?
What kind of training?
I know the books strictly urge against this.
AnswerHi Wayne,
I personally have never been able to take my Huskies off a leash in open area or during walks. They can not be trusted to stick by you or come back when called. I have only seen one person able to take their husky off a leash like this. It is very hard to train a husky to do this because they love to run free and chase after small animals, livestock, etc. I myself urge against this because you might lose your husky if you try to let your husky roam free. I myself let my dog off the leash 2 steps away from the door and thought he would just run inside, but turned and ran the other way. He wanted to be free and able to roam. I never saw him alive again because of my mistake. He was hit by a car that same night 3 hours later.
If you want to train your husky to walk off a leash and obey your commands, then I would get a professional trainer. One that has had lot of experience in training huskies. Please don't try to train on your own until you get a professional trainers advice.
I hope this answers your questions and if you have anymore questions please ask.
Thank You,
Laura
