Question
I've read some of your Q and A about husky's with loose stools. my husky's are 9month old and we can not seem to get a diet that doesnt give them the runs. can we give them any kind of raw meat? and will they be okey to have bones? at the monent we have them on a diet of ardend grange (spelt wrong) and banana, and pasta and tuna. but we still cant seem to get it right. it would be a great help if you could help me?! thanks kayleigh

Answer
Raw diet isn't good for a dog under a year old. Their immune system isn't fully developed and the bacteria in the meat can cause problems with them.
Things that cause loose stool.
-Eating to much. If you dog eats to much the body has to make room for it so the G.I. tract just pushes everything through.
-Eating to fast. give you dog smaller portions a few minutes apart from each other.
-Sickness or parasites. Take a poop sample in to the vet and follow up with a dewormer. Most diseases are very common place and can be picked up on the ground anywhere just by the dog licking their feet.

Tuna is also a very bad fish to feed your Siberian and they can get loose stool from this. Salmon is the best fish. Halibit and sardines are also a fish to stay away from. Pasta has a lot of Wheat in it so I would avoid pasta. Lamb or Chicken is the best meat to give a dog with a sensitive stomach.
Also avoid any food with
Corn (maze)
Soy
Beet juice

You can put your pup on a bland diet. Which is Unseasoned beef cooked with rice with a side of plain yogurt. This is meant to clean out the G.I. tract and are supposed to be on this for 2 weeks then you gradually work them to a kibble of your choice.
I feed Canidae grain free and remember they only require 2 cups of food and feed half in the morning and half in the evening.
www.canidae.com for store locater.
Also to help the dog become more regular you are missing putting enough fiber in the diet. Give canned pumpkin or Yam.
Bones are okay as long as they aren't cooked also watch them because they can break teeth on hard bones. Dental work on adult teeth are expensive.
