Cortisone Cream

Question
My vet gave us a cortisone cream for our golden
whom is excessively licking paws due to allergies.
Since the change of the seasons are over, the
allergies have subsided but she is still licking
the inside of her paw pads, making them red and
warm, and a perfect breeding ground for bacteria
and future problems.  (She recently had to have
a skin lesion removed from her top pad due to a blown out hair follicle with laser surgery, caused by excessive licking). Obviously,  I am
trying to avoid future problems.  Is there an over the counter cream for humans that I can use, (corticade) or a holistic (herbal receipe) to relieve the itching... since her medication is 20 dollars for an 8 oz liquid bottle of cortizone topical and getting expensive to apply daily?
Presently I wash her once a week and keep the hair trimmed at the feet to avoid problems, and apply this cortisone topical...She had benadryl
and cortisone pills she takes 10 days at a time
seasonally. Also can you refer an allergist in the Phoenix area?
Thank you for your feedback.  :)

Answer
This first thing you want to do it keep her from licking this area, at all costs.  If you see her licking, tell her "NO" and give her something to chew on.  You are doing a good job keeping her feet clean and hair free, this will help in healing.  I would think anything that is organic and natural for humans would be ok for pets, like holistic, but ask your vet first.  If you have a Natural Food Store in your area, check with them, maybe they will have something to help aid in itching.  I don't know of any allergists in the AZ area.  sorry.  good luck.
