How can you tell if a Golden Retriever is pregnant?

About 30 days after conception, an experienced person can feel the puppies.  Since with an unsupervised mating, she may have been injured or infected, it might be best to have a vet do the examination.  For even more positive results, the vet can use ultrasound or X-rays.

I frequently get questions like yours, and it disturbs me.  After the dog is pregnant is entirely too late to start learning about dog breeding.  I am very concerned about casual breeding and the millions of dogs slaughtered for lack of good homes.  Beating up on you won't help.  I will ask that after any pregnancy is over, you seriously consider having her spayed.  It is the only responsible thing for most pets.  If you don't understand what I am talking about, visit your local animal shelter.  Also go to www.petfinder.org and see how many Goldens and mixes in your area need homes.  You could also read about breeding at www.akc.org.
