Weight of Golden Retriever

Question
My male golden retriever pup is now seven months old and weighs 70 pounds. He walks appx. 3 miles per day in addition to his play. The vet says he's just going to be a large GR, but I'm worried: is 70 lbs too much at this age?

Answer
He may just be a big boy.  What is more important than his weight, is his body condition and rate of growth.  See http://www.longliveyourdog.com/twoplus/RateYourDog.aspx  Adjust how much you are feeding to bring him into his ideal body condition.  A good vet would have noted excessive weight and said to cut back.

An early switch to adult chow slows growth, allowing more time to develop sturdy joints. I would switch at once if still on a puppy chow.
