Wanting another Golden

Question
Hi, we currently have a 4-month old male golden (Baxter).  We would like to get another Golden in the future, but wanted some advice as to whether Baxter should be a certain age before we look at getting another Golden and whether a male or female Golden would be better.  Many thanks!

Answer
I don't feel Baxter's age has as much to do with waiting as does whether he's housebroken, past the teething stage, etc.  If you are considering getting another puppy, it would be easier on you not to have two dogs going through the same stages at the same time.

Generally speaking, male/male and male/female work OK whereas female/female can be tricky sometimes.

Many dogs like to "pick" their own friends; just because a dog is a "golden" doesn't mean they will necessarily like every other dog they meet.

When it does come time for you to find a companion for Baxter, taking him along and seeing who he likes might be the best way to proceed.
