Question
Hey there Labman, I have a 4 month old golden retriever female.  i am trying to do some leash training with her. We are walking along just fine when she does this sit and won't budge number on me, it is soooo frustrating!! She will do it multiple times in a session. How does one deal with that, is she being defient or what-it about takes a cannon to go off to get her moving again. Thanks for any insite you might have. Kathy

Answer
Can you link it to anything specific?  I once had a young Lab that would turn around and sit down and bark.  I finally realized the problem were these dolts coming the other way that went by without stopping to pet her.

With some dogs, a sharp snap of the leash, the command ''Name, heel!'', and dragging them along works.  Others, you have to get out in front and coax them.  4 months is the minimum age to introduce a slip collar.  Even then, the tender, young necks should not be given too hard of corrections.  I am quick to suggest the head collars for pulling, but am not sure this is a good application.
