Dear Labman, We currently have two Mini Schnauzers, 10 months and 5 months. The elder of the two is a female and the youngster is a male.  My husband is missing having a German Shepherd as a pet.  Do you think that a Shepherd pup would get along with the Mini's and vice versa? If so, would you recommend one gender over the other?? Thanks so much for your time.

I don't see a lot of small breeds, but think it should be OK.  I do see a lot of 7 month olds with 7 weeks olds, and seldom a problem.  I would go with a male since more of the most intractable problems involve 2 females.  If you are getting a puppy, talk to the breeder about getting a lower ranking one.  If the breeder doesn't seem to understand what you are talking about, likely they don't know enough about dogs to produce quality puppies.
