Question
I have a male Pom approaching 12 months, I also have a female Queensland Heeler & they get along great, with the occasional rebuke from the older (4)girl for butt sniffing, ball stealing, etc. We live on a couple rural acres & have a pond that I find very difficult to keep my Pom out of. I've read that you dont reccomend bathing very often but I'm hosing, bathing whatever I can do to keep him acceptable to the nose & house! Should I just hose down applicable parts w/just water or is there a good shampoo I can use more often? Also they are both big ball chasers & while the Heeler will drink plenty of water when she should, the Pom wont! Sits there panting & has such a heavier coat. I have poured a little skim milk in a bowl of water to get him to drink & that works. But, is there harm in that?Thank you for your time & I'm so grateful for your help as I just love this little guy so much even though I've been told that he's just a fish out of water in this ranch setting!

Answer
I use Mane N Tail shampoo available at pet shops and Wal-Marts carry it.  It washes in easily and rinses out without a lot of work and takes away odor.

You might also consider clipping back this Poms coat during
the summer months to keep him cool.  Poms like water and mine play in the water buckets.

You might consider putting  a small amount of gatoraide in his water and see if that will encourage him to drink
a bit more water.  AND I think he will be much more healthy
with the environment that you have provided for him than
a cooped up dog.
