excessive shedding pomeranian

Question
My pom, a 3 year old female, has been shedding a lot all summer.  It has gotten worse over the last 2 weeks.  She has mats on the sides of her back end that pretty much fall out as I brush her.  She was sick with hemmhoraging gastroenteritis lat April and was on antibiotics, both orally and through IV (if this has any relation to the shedding).  Her diet was a little mixed after the illness; now she eats a mix of boiled chicken and rice mixed with wellness super mix 5.  She has been spayed since the age of 6 months.  I would like to know if this shedding is normal (so far no bald patches) or if it cause for alarm.  What is your advice and when should it stop and the hair grow back.  Thanks.

Answer
Because of her past illness all bets are off as far as her coat goes.  The coat is the first to reat when there is an impbalance in the dog so recovering will usually mean a loss of coat and then a regrowth.
I would expect her regrowth to be noticable in about another 4-6 months.  Get her in for a check up with the vet if you are further concerned.

Best of luck.
