Question
I know this may seem like a stupid question.  I have a female pitbull and she just went into heat about two weeks ago and I was told to keep an eye on her at all times.  I was doing just that and I kept her away from all male dogs, except for a male chihuahua.  Is it possible for them to make puppies.  I would like to breed her at the right age so I dont want to get her spade yet.  I would appreciate help on this matter, or perhaps a steer in the direction on where to find out.  Thank you very much.                  -Tami

Answer
Absolutely. Anything is possible. Even if she's bred, you wouldn't necessarily have to have her spayed after this. The puppies would be very small and she would probably deliver them just fine. There's a myth that if your dog gets bred by a dog of another breed that when you breed her back to one of her own kind the puppies will be no good. Boy, would I like to know who made that one up!

If the breeding just happened, it's possible for your vet to give her a shot to keep the eggs from growing. You might want to check that out if you don't want puppies at all right now.  Good luck.
