Question
I just bought an American Bulldog and my sister told me that I should get her trained because they can be violent dogs. Is that true?? Right now she's very calm and layed back. I find that hard to believe.

Answer
First of all, a Poodle can be a violent dog if provoked.

That being said, American Bulldogs are large dogs and can be a handful if not at least obedience trained. You didn't mention how old your dog is, but if it's a puppy, I would take the time to go to obedience classes. If it's an adult, chances are it's probably had some training if it's calm at this stage.

There's always a chance the dog seems laid back because it's in a new home. This may be the calm before the storm.

Tell your sister to read a book about American Bulldogs.  Enjoy your dog.
