Question
We've had a male EB puppy for almost 2 weeks now.  Most of the time he's very gentle, but he has a bad temper.  If he gets angry he will growl and bite very hard.  When I yell NO! sometimes he will growl louder and continue to try and bite me. I will crate him for a time out, but he will continue to try and bite me when I'm putting him in the crate.  He definitely challenges authority and has already begun to challenge our other two dogs (12 & 4 yr old Shelties).  Yesterday, he bit my 8 year old son hard enough to break the skin and bruise his arm when my son was only reaching over to pet him.  The breeder swears that both of his parents are very gentle and that he will be too with proper training, but I'm worried for my child's safety and the safety of others.  Does this sound like "normal" behavior that can be corrected with training, or should I return this puppy to the breeder?  He has already been neutered. Thank you.

Answer
This is perfectly normal behavior for a puppy this age. Keep in mind that his only social reference up to this point is interaction with his siblings where growling and biting was perfectly acceptable. It's up to you to teach him acceptable behavior with humans.

Email me directly and I will send you some training information I'm sure will help you. Training a puppy, any puppy, takes time and patience. If you're ready to throw in the towel after only 2 weeks, maybe a puppy isn't right for you at this time.
