English Bulldog as a Pet

Question
I was looking to buy a puppy within the next couple of months and I was considering buying an English Bulldog. I am a 22 year full time college student, and part time worker.  I am going to be buying a condominium fairley soon and it will not have a backyard but a balcony if the dog needed to go to the bathroom and such.  I am very responsible and I love to workout and go for walks, so I will definitley take the dog out for at least 5 walks a week.  I just wanted to know if you feel that an english bulldog would be the right pet for me, I am looking for something that is not a smaller girly dog, I want something that has a fair amount of energy but isn't always hyper and can just lay on the couch with me and watch some tv and be a loyal friend.  Also if I do get an english bulldog, as far as the future goes, I just wanted to know what I would be in store for as far as health issues.  If  you could just answer those questions for me when you have an oppurtunity that would be great.

Answer
In my opinion, according to what you've told me, now isn't the time for you to be getting any puppy. That being said, a Bulldog puppy is pretty active, as are most puppies. There's time and training involved, as well as socialization. Full time school and part time work doesn't leave much time for properly raising and training a puppy.

As far as health issues go, Bulldogs have plenty to go around. Even something as simple as having entropion surgery (eye tacking) might run in the hundreds of dollars. There's a reason these dogs are expensive and reasons why people who don't have a lot of disposable income shouldn't own one.

This may not have been what you wanted to hear, but I would rather tell you now than have you find out after the fact that owning any puppy is a huge commitment.
