Bulldog skin problems

Question
I have a couple problems with our 10 month old English Bulldog.  First he has red bleeding bumps all over his chin and have been there since he was really little??  Second he trys to scratch his butt all day long or should I say his tail. I noticed he had a rash inside his fold on his tail and put desitin and gold bond powder and it looks better but he keeps itching it.  His face also smells after a day or so even if I use baby wipes.  How often should I clean his folds I don't want to over clean like you said.  Should I put gold bond on everyday or what?  Thank you!

Answer
This is pyoderma on his chin. Try cleaning it with a 50/50 solution of hydrogen peroxide and warm water 2-3 times a day. Dry it really well and put on an antibiotic ointment like Neosporin each time. If it spreads, it can turn into a staph infection and will require antibiotics.

If he has a really tight tail, there may be an infection going on. Have a vet take a look at this before it becomes a serious issue. It may be that he simply needs his anal glands expressed.  Again, your vet or groomer can do this.

Get rid of the Gold Bond powder. Don't use baby wipes every day. You're creating a moist environment where bacteria thrives, more so than if you didn't clean it at all.

Use a dry soft material to wipe his face and then put vaseline in the wrinkles, a like coating, not a lot. This will keep the moisture from forming and protect his skin as well. It should also help with the odor.
