Question
we found a boxer in our front door, he just walk right in.
he is a male, approx. 1 yrs old. neighbor saw him out on the street, on the main street for about a week time, found his self very comfortable at our house. questions, is he good with other small dogs? i have smaller breed, pom, yorkie, and a black lab. he like to play with them, but he is biggest one, and i am afraid that he might hurt them. yet, he is very friendly, and sweet. but, he does not his size. he is approx. 60 lbs, and with big mouth.  does boxer hurt other dogs.  my straight black lab. hurt my yorkie, by telling yorkie off.  will this boxer does the same?
we thought he was a pit bull, but, he looks more like a boxer, with a big head.

Answer
Hi. Boxers can be the sweetest dogs, very loyal to his family. On the other hand, they can be hyper, and have been known to be same sex dog aggressive. From my experience, with my own Boxers, they can be really good with small dogs. My oldest male was other male dog agressive. When he met a small male dog, he never acted that way with them, he even allowed them to do things that would normally get a growl. I don't know if he thought they were puppies, or knew they were small and easily hurt. He was never raised around small dogs so his behavior towards them surprised me. If you're planning on keeping this boy, I would suggest someone always being with him when he's with the smaller dogs, just to make sure he doesn't hurt them. He may accidentally hurt them by playing, they can get rough, not knowing their size. I would take him and a smaller dog for a walk at the same time to get him use to being with them, and keeping him on a leash when outside playing with them for a bit until you see how he's going to act with them. Boxers are smart, fast learners. He's young yet, and you can teach him to get along with them. Teach him to 'leave it'. If he gets pushy with the small dogs, say 'leave it!' and direct his attention to something else. You have to be consistant with this. If I can help with anything else, let me know.
