Getting Mentors & Club Membership

Hey Nicole, I've two boxers now. Neither is up to standard so they have both been fixed. BUT the breed has become very important to me and at some point I would love to start a program. I'm in no particular rush mostly because I want to do it right and would love some experienced guidance.

There are plenty of breeders and a breed club close to me but who do I approach? One with the best reputation? One with the most experience? One with dogs whose features/traits I prefer? So many questions, so much to learn, a breeder whose ethics I agree with? All? None? Help!

Also, what reading do you recommend? I have a couple Boxer "handbooks," but I would like something a little more developed.

To answer your first one, if your nearest breed club is a member of the ABC (American Boxer Club), that's who you should contact.
