mange!!!

We have a eight month male boxer with mange , and he has seen a vet and started a chemical dip bath.  But our concern is will the mange go away for good and is it contiguous ,because we have another dog at home also?

Hi Oscar,

Yes, with proper treatment, the mange will go away.  All puppies and dogs have mites (the cause of mange), however, they only affect the puppy when it has a suppressed or compromised immune system.  Demodectic mange is only caused by the mites which are transferred between mother and pup...this type of mange cannot be transmitted to other dogs.

Sarcoptic mange, however, can be transmitted. It's important that you find out what type of mange your puppy has.
