Question
My female boxer is 3 and we took a male rescue boxer in 3 wks ago and they mated 10days ago. We want puppies. Then last night we noticed green discharge coming out of her.We brought her to vet and he gave her injection and tablets but he didn't know what it was. So when i came home my male boxer has green discharge coming out of penis. All vets in Dublin are closed until Mon. what do you think this is as the vet said they both prob need to get the snip. But he hasn't seen the male one. Please help, could she be pregnant    or is this very serious? Thank you inadvance, Edel

Answer
She may or may not be pregnant, but a green discharge is not normal for either of them.  Generally this is a sign of infection; the seriousness and treatment depends on the cause of discharge.  A prime suspect would be brucellosis, if they weren't both tested before breeding; a test should be done now so that you know, because aside from being infectious to other dogs, brucellosis can cause abortion if she is pregnant.  Hopefully it's not something quite so serious, but even a bacterial infection can cause complications with pregnancy, so you definitely want to know what the root of the problem is.
