Question
QUESTION: Hi,
My friends boston just has a C-section delivery resulting in 5 puppies.  This was her second liter, but on the first she only had one large pup and it died ( not sure why).
With this liter the mom seems to be doing well with the pups, but as a precaution she is not left unattended when she is nursing the pups. This is also the only time she is put with them.  She cleans them and seems very comfortable with them.  About 24 hrs later the family had people come over to look at them ( some were new to the mother dog).  One hour after everone had left the door to the pups bed was left open which allowed the mother and father dogs unattended access to them (along with outside access through a doggie door to fenced in yard).  No noises were heard, but upon checking in on them after the hour one of the larger female pups had disappeared.  No sign of blood or puppy anywhere.  Any ideas on what could have happened?
Since then a double check is done on the door being closed and an inner gate is always in place.
thanks, Debbie

ANSWER: Hello. The puppy is hidden somehwhere in the house or yard and must be found right away or it will surely die....the mother can pick up her puppies and cart them away and since the strangers probaly upset her she moved a puppy....please check Everywhere tey possibly could have gotten to the puppy wotn make it long without eatting and something is bound to kill it if its found sqealing in the yard...ie crow/magpie/hawk/cat....it could also be under someones bed in a landry basket or under a dresser....it would be extremly odd for these kind and caring dogs to kill there daughter so they must have relocated her....please let me know where you find her! emial again anytime I really would like to know where they had put her, best of luck and if shes not already found look for her right away

QUESTION: Hello,
It couldn't be anywhere in the house because she only had access to the laundry room with only dogs bowls and a washer and dryer( which were completely searched by many with a flashlight), and the outside doggie door which went to the well fenced in yard that is all grass and the only thing out there is the air unit which was checked completely.  We feel that she did try to move them outside and in the process of returning for another or a distraction by the owners coming to check on them a hawk took it because there is no sign and she is now very protective of her remaining babies.  The others are doing well and this is a sad lesson learned.  Thanks for  your help

Answer
I feared that is likely what happened if the pup was left even for a moment unatended in the yard as little puppies squeak and squeal like mice or rat babies, I am very sorry for this little puppy what a horrible fate that must be being carted off alive by a bird of prey....brings chills up my spine since I think of dogs as very intelligent loving animals that truely love there people and bare near human intellgence at times....All I can say is be very sure to bar off the doggy door the parents should have no access to the yard if they can also get to the puppies at the same time... for there sake, Instead calling the mother or father dogs and letting them go out several times per day and returning them to where the babies are would be much safer, I wish you and your friend the best of luck with the remaining puppies and hope you both find this time very enjoyable as the puppies don't stay tiny for long....before you know it they will be off to tehee new homes as well.
