swollen tail

Question
Hello and thank you for answering my question.
My 6 year old, male, Boston Terrier, Junior has a great deal of swelling around his tail. He has a very tiny tail, maybe extends 1/2inch out from the body. The flesh around his tail is like a human "outie" type belly button. I make sure the area is kept clean, it is not oozing and does not show any signs of infection or injury, except for the swelling. The vet gave him antibiotics and a steroid shot one day ago. Only the area around the tail is swollen, not the actual tail. He does not have a fever, he is eating/drinking as usual, bowel movements are normal,( the antibiotics are making his stool a bit loose). I will bring him back to the vet in a few days if I don't see any improvement. I wondered if you have seen or heard of anything like this in the stub tailed dogs?
Thank you again,
Sandra

Answer
Well, sounds very odd!  I think he got bit or a bee sting.  He may have sat on something that upset the area.  I bet in a few days he will be back to normal.
Sounds like your vet is doing a good job treating it.
I would have also given some Benadryl 1-2 mg per pound of dog.... that's what most VET offer for swelling.
Benadryl is good to have in the house for any type of swelling like this...

Good luck
HOPE all heals well.
