Answer
Hello Stacey. My beagle and your beagle are around the same age. At one year old they are still growing though it may not be noticeable, so they're appetight grows. Depending on how active Axel is you should feed him usually 2-3 times a day, but not huge portions. Usually 1 cup in the morning and some people come home from lunch and give their dogs like a sort of "snake" usually a cup, and finally 1 cup at dinner time. Research the dog food you are giving Axel. What may sound good quality to you may not be for Axel. A great quality food you wouldn't have to feed it so much. A lower grade food would require more because the dog wouldn't be getting enough nutrients, fiber, and protein. If you feed Axel the best quality food then you would only have to feed him say twice a day. Depending on where you live it may be difficult to get great dog food. Usually you would get it at petsmart, petco, and places lie that. I live in a small town and I have to usually settle for wal-mart, because there is not a petsmart within reach. Which you can get great dog food at wal-mart, but the dog food at wal-mart has a cheaper grade of ingredients. Some great ones are: Solid Gold, Nutro Max, Blue Buffalo, Taste of the Wild, and Canidae. Try looking into some of those. Well, good luck and you sounds like a great pet owner!
