QUESTION: Why do you think he breathes heavy and moves his paws like he is walking while he is sleeping?  I just brought him home from my brother's house 2 weeks ago and he is peeing and pooping in my house.  I take him out often.  He also stays under the bed all day and we sometimes can't get him to come out unless he needs to go to the bathroom.  Also he is not eating the Purina One dry dog food.  He will only eat canned food and purina moist and meaty.  What should i do?

A lot of dogs when they sleep the twitch, and breath hard. Its very normal. I know this is sounds funny, but that usually means they are having a dream. I wouldn't worry about that to much, unless his breathing gets outragious, wake him up and if he keeps on make a VET visit, but it just sounds like he is in a deep sleep. If he is new to your house then he probably is going to have a bunch of accidents because he is nervous and not quite sure where to go. Use the puppy training pads to train him. Get him on a schedule take him outside about 45 minutes after he eats. Wet food is ok, but it makes them go to the bathroom more. Try you best to enforce dry food though. Feed him 2-3 times a day at portions of one cup. I recommend switching the food too. Either to what you brother was feeding him. Or, science diet, nutro, or blue buffalo. Those are the best dog foods you can get. But they are hard to get because you usually have to go to a petsmart or petco. I live in a small town and would have to travel 100 miles to get one so I order my beagle's on the Internet and it gets delivered. Its a littler higher than Purina, but the quality of it will add years to your beagle's life. Try the puppy pads again, you can usually get those anywhere, like wal-mart or a market. Try switching his food, and if you can't get the ones that I suggested try beneful, or eukanuba. While he is sleeping just monitor him every once in a while. QUESTION: My brother was feeding him a low cost dog food from family dollar.  I want to feed him something nutritious and healthy. Is Natures Recipe a good brand of dog food?  Also is it good for him?

Yes, it would be a good idea getting him off of that quick. Those foods are fatty and contain everything you do NOT want for the dog. Nature's Recipe is good. It will make his skin healthy and his fur shiny. It has a lot of the nutrients and fiber and protein that he needs. Again I would also look around at everything though. The three best dog food choices are blue buffalo, nutro, and science siet. If you go to blue buffalo's main website you can get a free same of food, and see if the dog likes it. Try to get him on a dry food blend instead of wet. All in all Nature's Recipe will be good for him. Make sure you get the adult recipe. A lot of people just grab the basic one not looking at the age, but it matters because different ages need differnt things. Such as a adult wouldn't be eatting baby food, and adult dog wouldn't be eatting puppy food. The adult brand will work well with bones too.
