11 month old female beagle suddenly eliminating in the house?

Question

ruby
Hi I have an 11 month old female beagle named Ruby! She's an absolute treasure but over the past week she has suddenly started messing in the house during the night, then today she did it during the day as well.

[She broke her leg at 5 1/2 Months (trying to jump up on a kitchen counter, fell and landed badly on a tiled floor), as a result of the cast she took an infection in her paw which left her with virtually no middle pad on her hind left leg. As a result she has to wear a boot when outside for long periods of time as the area is more sensitive.]Now when she pees she holds the bad leg up like a boy, (she developed this habit when her leg was in plaster)but puts it down when having a bowel movement.

Over the last few days we have had some snow which she hasn't seen before and which she seems to love playing in, but she hasn't done her business outside since it arrived.  I'm not sure if this is the trigger for her going in the house? or if this is purely a coincidence?

Also she hasn't had her first season yet (the vet thinks this is due to the trauma associated with the broken leg and infection etc (she is better now aside from the sensitivity.) However she is starting to swell at the back end etc and I can see some signs that this may be starting. Could this be causing her to be out of sorts? and hence cause her to eliminate inside?
She is still eating but is slower to eat than usual,(only 5 mins or so, she waits till holly finishes before she tucks in) but other than that her coat is still shining and she is her usual mischievous self, tormenting/ playing with our other dog, older cat and 2 kittens as and when she sees fit.

She was housetrained using cue words and food rewards and was really easily trained and hasn't had an accident in the house since she was about 10 weeks old, so it highly unusual for her. She still gets random bonus prizes for doing her business outside just to keep her training to the forefront of her mind.

she was in a crate when she was sick but I don't really believe in them, it was purely because she wasn't allowed to move, so I don't see that as the answer. She sleeps in the kitchen with my other dog, who recently had a bug and eliminated in the house (this has been treated by the vet), but Ruby's stools appear normal, other than the fact that they are inside!

Could she have picked up the fact that Holly was going inside and decided it was ok?

Also she will be due to be wormed next week could this be a factor?

She is exercised regularly and is rarely on her own for very long as we have a large family and there is always someone in the house with her. I personally spend a lot of time with them and Play with Ruby a lot, however last week due to other commitments, I didn't get to see as much of her as I would like. Could this be a behavioral problem?

Apologies for the length of the Question but I just want to know what my best course of action is for her. I honestly don't think she is unwell as such, as she still has bags of energy and is having plenty of fun in the snow with "frozen" toys! and a frozen human!

She is let outside regularly, and her routine hasn't changed, other than as mentioned above. Any insight you have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Answer
Wow, Ruby is absolutley gorgeous!!! It is pretty obvious that you are a wonderful dog mom and care a great deal about your animals.I had to chuckle when I read your note though because as I got to each one I was like, Yep that could be it! and then came to another one and I was like Yep that could also be it!  :)   Every thing you asked about could have caused her to start eliminating in the house, one or all together. The only one I don't think it is.... is that she is due to be wormed.... that wouldnt have anything to do with it.

You just need to retrain her and spend maybe a week treating her as if she was a pup again and do every thing you did with her when she was littler. If you need help with the housebreaking process I can send you my recommended way but it sounds like you had it down already and this is just a hiccup in her training.
