Question
Hi Have4Paws! First, let me say, thank you for donating your time and efforts to this wonderful site. Ok, now on to the question. I have a female beagle, Shayne. Shayne is a wonderful friend but I'm concerned. Last night I woke up thinking someone was knocking on my door but it turns out the noise was coming from Shayne's nose! Her nose was literally "knocking"! I've never heard her do this before. Is this something that is typical of beagles? Do all of their noses make this noise? If so, what causes this to happen? I'm just worried that something might be wrong like stuffy sinuses or something to that effect. Any insights you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again, Angie.

Answer
Hi Angie. thanks for the comments, it is nice to know that what we all do on this site is appreciated.

Two thoughts come to mind about your girl. One is the sinus thing, it is possible for her to have swollen membranes just like we get. My female beagle (15) has snored all her life and it is an anatomical issue but it is worse when the pollens are bad. I can't say I have ever heard of a knocking sound though which is why I think if it persists a visit to the vet is needed because I wonder if there is something stuck in her nose like a burr or something.

It is not typical of a beagle to make this sound. Also are you sure it was not reverse sneezing? Let me know if you want to explore this question further by giving me some more really detailed info if it occurs again, ok? As always I feel when in doubt check it out with the vet though.
