My new Beagle and my Cats....

I just got a 7 month old beagle, she has an excellent temperament and LOVES children as she came from a house with 3. I have two fairly young cats (4 and 2) and they are TERRIFIED of my beagle. They have been in the basement for 3 days (very unusual for them). I have tried to let it run its coarse but when they see each other the cats hiss and then the Beagle barks, I'm pretty sure its a playful bark and she is just excited and wants to play. What can I do to get them to be buddys?? Please help!

Unfortunately I am unable to help you much with this question. I do not have any experience with trainng cats. As far as the beagle remember that they have a high prey instinct hard wired in to them. I doubt she would hurt them but she WILL always want to chase them and sniff them, she will also think the kittylitter box is Godiva chocolate so beware as there are diseases that cats can transmit to her.
