what about beagles?

I can,t find much imfo on beagle dogs.I have a 7 month old male beagle,I think he is smart or is that just me thinking this, whats your opinion.He has one annoying problem, when someone enters the house he yells + carries on and wets on the floor or what ever he happens to be on, I am very patient with him ,I do think he is getting a wee bit better.Also he sits promptly on command.I am scared to take him in the field, which is every where out here where I live,but I picture him off leash putting nose to ground and running off forever,because of the breed.He always waits for me to go down stairs first he doesn,t charge I just thought I,d add afew behavior things to give you an idea of his personality.I want to familarize myself with breed.Any help will be appreciated.Thankyou Sharon

My dog waits for me to go down the stairs first to so don't worry. potty train him before you think about teaching sitting commands try taking him out in the field for a bit after he starts coming when you call and he might not run off. if he does he won't go to far he will turn around and come home.beagles are very smart.go to a library and find a dog book.hope this info will help.sorry if it is not what your looking for.
