Question
QUESTION: We have 2 one year old beagles that we adopted from a shelter about 5 months ago.  When we first got them, they had a couple of accidents and then they were pretty much done with that. Just recently, one of them has started to jump up onto our bed and pee.  We never have let them sleep with us, but they do have their own beds on the floor next to ours.  They pretty much have free run of outside and a doggy door so they can go outside whenever they want.  But she just jumps up there during the day and pees then gets down. And we already keep the door shut but we also have 2 small children so the door doesnt always stay that way! We love them very much and we just don't know what to do!!! please help!!!!!

ANSWER: Hello Sheila!
It sounds like she has a bladder problem. Chances are its a urinary tract infection. It is very easy for females to get. Which are not serious at all. When dogs have urinary tract infection or a bladder infection they go in odd places or the "wrong" places to let you know they are in pain, and need help. I would suggest taking it to its veternarian. The chances of it being that in my opinion are 70%. Most dogs that come from a shelter are usually trained when they are there and stay that way at their new home. So you said that she had a few accidents and then everything evened out. So she knows she is doing something wrong or something to lash out. Make sure that she has plenty of fresh cool water, it will help flush out the infection. Like I said earlier they are not serious. Humans can have a urinary tract/bladder infection and not even have to go to the doctor, just drink water or cranberry juice. Of course you can't tell a dog to drink its water so it needs all the help it can get. I don't see much else it could be besides that, except some possible anxiety of sleeping by herself, which you said that she has a bed next to yours. So I would check everything out with the Vet. If you still are having problems beyond that, it must be a training, or psychological thing and so don't hesitate to e-mail me again, I would be glad to further more help. Good luck and no need to worry they are not serious or life threatening.

QUESTION: thanks again for the advice on the bladder infection. I do have another question for you  It really isn't anything serious but i was just wondering if you knew any reason why my beagles will spend hours rolling around on the floor chewing on each others ears.  I couldn't find anything about it any where else, and i was wondering if its normal or not.  They do it for so long sometimes that they both end up with dripping wet ears!  Its pretty funny to watch but i was wondering if it is normal or not.  Thanks again!

Answer
Hello Again!
Yes, quite normal they are just playing, and entertaining themselves. My beagle and my cousins beagle like to do it to each other. It is indeed fun to watch. Just make sure one doesn't puncture the others ear. They love to roll around on the floor after they have been bathed, when they have ate, and when they just wake up. It normal because they are happy, but not so much when they are wet. I hope that helps you out! Good luck with everything! Its sounds like you are a great pet owner.
