Beagle Pregnancy

Question
My beagle baby girl is about 9 months old, and has had her first heat. Unfortunately (or fortunately) however you look at it, she got *stuck* together with another dog 4 times in the week. We tried to pull them apart, etc, but I realize that doesnt work much.

Anyhow, her little nipples have gotten bigger, and she is a bit more lethargic, not terrible, but just a bit more lazy. It has been about 25 days now, so I know it wont be much longer if she is. But how do you know if it is a real or false pregnancy? or if she IS pregnant at all? Is there any other signs I can look for?

Thanks
Judi

Answer
Judi, has your beagle found herself in a family way? The only way to tell for sure is to take her to your vet. Your vet can do an ultrasound. If it has been 25 days then you only have about a month left.
Enlarged nipples, lethargy and change of appetite are signs of pregnancy but, only a vet can tell for sure.
Also, if two dogs are stuck together do not try to remove them apart. A male dog has a gland that increases 10 fold when your dogs are stuck together. It is designed to be sure that they do not come apart. If they are already stuck together it is to late to separate them. Separating them is very painful for both dogs and can cause damage to the female dog.
