Lump on puppys stomach

Question
well I have some good news.  The vet today said that it was a umbilical (sp?) hernia.  He said not to worry about it unless it got really bad.  He said he would take care of it in 5 months when i brought her back in to get spayed.  So it is a problem but not somethign he was too concerned about.  Thanks for the help though.  It was nice to get such a quick reply and will be visiting this site again.  Thanks

Question -
Hi i have a 3/4 beagle and 1/4 redbone.  My 7 week old female has a lump on her mid belly about 1/2" around and sticks out about 3/8".  What is this.  And is it serious.  It seems to be sticking out underneath the skin with no holes in it.

Answer -
Scott, I have seen a lot of beagles with fatty tumors. That is what this sounds like. A fatty tumor is harmless but, a vet must determine what it is. Usually I see fatty tumors in older beagles (over 4) so, at 7 weeks I would definitely have it seen by a vet. A vet can aspirate the tumor and put it on a slide to determine if it is a fatty tumor. If it isn't your vet may need to remove it and have it tested.
I realize how expensive pet care can be so I recommend speaking to the SPCA to see if there are low cost options in your area.

Answer
Thank you so much for following up Scott. This is great news. It couldn't have worked out better.
Congenital hernia's are usually pain free. It would of been a separate operation if your beagle was a boy. Since it appeared early she will only need one operation; Your vet can take care of it at the same time as the spay. I think you were meant to have this beagle =)
