Question
Hi. My Misty is a 7 yr old, 13" beagle and she is about 40lbs. We walk and walk and the scale doesn't move an inch. She eats 1 1/2 cups of dry food broken into 2 feedings and VERY few treats, usually only after a bath, once a month. She usually lays around and sleeps all day if she doesn't need to pee or poop. Is she too old to change or is there still hope for her?

Answer
Hello LaDonna!
First off I would check with your Vet to see if she has any traces of a thyroid. Its sounds like you are feeding the right portions at the right times. What kind of food do you feed her? Different ages of dogs need different times of food. Example) You wouldn't feed a puppy senior food. Whatever brand you are feeding her try looking for a senior brand it in. Try some new things with her. Talk her for walks at times she isn't used to. If you normally take her out at 8:00 take her out at 4:00. Its never to late to teach and old dog some new tricks. Try Frisbee, balls, squeaky toys, etc. She may have some digestive problems right now. Not digesting them right, and that's what may make her not go at the same day everyday. Relatively dogs should go to the bathroom at the same time everyday with glitches every once in a while. She may be getting arthritis, I would also ask your VET about it. Ask your VET about those conditions. I hope I have helped with your situation, best wishes and good luck!
