Question
Hi Again,
You seem super knowledgeable so  i have another question for you.  Previosuly I had a large kennel that I put Myles in at night and he didnt seem to like that.  So I then swithced him to a Crate that is a litle smaller and I think more secure.  At night he seems to let me know when he has to go potty, now bear in mind he is 10 weeks old and already is pretty darn good at going outside, i think because the previous owner had him outside only.  I work long hours during the day and have taken him to work twice.  I would like to leave him a section of the house maybe the bathroom or laundryroom. while Im gone.  I always have water available outside but food is only when it is time to eat.  1st question, if i put him in a room with a puppy pad is that counter productive?  I assume he wont be able to hold it all day but I dont want him thinking thats where he goes when he is used to going outside.  2nd question, where do most ppl leave their puppy at night?  I put him in his crate next to my bed and take him out when he whines at me and praise him, will this get to a point when he can go all night without waking up?  Is there a time frame? Also i always put him in there to sleep so gets the Idea thats where he goes for bedtime, i shouldnt put him in there if he is bad though right as this will confuse him?  Thanks!!

Answer
Hello!
If you put him in a room with a puppy pad and leave him all day. He will eventually get used to that and not want to actually go outside for anything. So I wouldn't lock him in a room. See if you can come home for lunch and feed and walk him. Where people leave their puppies at night is just a preference. I have let mine sleep in bed with me since the night I got her, and she has done magnificent. She sleeps well, she doesn't ever get up (unless I do). But a lot of people don't like that. If you take him out everytime he whines at you then he will never learn. It is just like a spoiled child, if he whines and you take him out he gets what he wants everytime. If you want him to learn then leave him in. I know it is hard, but he will learn. The last question about confusing him is hard to explain. Because we never know what they are thinking. A lot of people don't really ever punish them by putting them where they sleep because the anxiety will come back. On the other hand it is ok to try ot out and see if it works. In my opinion I wouldn't punish him where he sleeps.
