Answer
Hello Tim!
Beagles are known to be the hardest dog to train. There are a couple things you can do. Some of my suggestions could not take a while, and some could. First and the quickest, you could get her professionally trained at a petsmart or a petco. The reason I say this is because they are very hard to train, especially if you are a beginner with a beagle. She is still very young and on the average beagles it can take up to a year and a half to get house trained that is why it is very easy to take a 8 week class at a professional. Second, if you want to do it yourself. Start off with the puppy training pads. The scent will attract the beagle to the pads and she will have the urge to go on it instead of the carpet. Then get her on a schedule. You should only be feeding her 1-2 times a day with portions of one cup. After you feed her wait around 30-45 minutes and take her outside in which ever area you don't mind her designating in. Usually she will be attracted to bushes, trees, weeds, or wooded areas. It may take up to a hour at first to get her to go outside. By doing that you are saying to her we are going to out here for a while and if you go we can go inside. After the first couple times it won't take as long. Any kind of active play she does like running outside will get her bladder worked up and will help her go. There is a tool on Dr.Foster and Smith's website. Google that website and then in the search bar on their main page type in hydrant. It is also something you set that has a strong scent on it that attracts them to go. I think it runs around $12.99, it is worth its money. I have one for my beagle and it has helped a load, especially with the training going on at the same time. There are other options like kennel training which is very effective. There are two other things that will help you in training your beagle and they are three simple words. Scold and praise. When she messes up say "NO!" and when she does it correct say "good dog!" in a soothing voice and possibly give her a treat. Praising is just as important as scolding. Try those things and if you need some more help don't hesitate to ask for some more help.
