housebreaking and training my beagle

Question
I am stationed in Germany and bought myself a beagle pup from a couple living on base that couldn't take care of him. He is 7 months old now and not fully house trained. He is trained to pee on newspaper but he still poops wherever. Is there a way to break him of this at this age to go outside or even do both businesses on the paper? Also could you tell me some ways to train him to sit, come, stay, etc. The normal commands a dog needs.

Answer
Hello Lawerence!
I apologize for the delay I have been having problem with the server. It sounds like typical beagle trouble. Beagles are one of the hardest animals to train. First off newpaper isn't very effective. You need to try the puppy training pads you can get the usually anywhere that sells dogs stuff, such as walmart. Lay the pads down in the areas that he is having accidents and over a short period of time move them each day closer and closer to the main door that you take him out with. That will teach him to go to the door when he needs to use the bathroom. It sounds like the previous owners didn't have him on a good schedule and feeding portions at that age you should only be feeding him 1/2 a cup twice a day taking him out 30-45 minutes after eating and drinking. Keep in mind he is a puppy and his bladder isn't fully developed so he can't hold it as long as say a two year old dog. Remember praise is just as important as telling him he did wrong. Praise him everytime he does something right. As for tricks they are a very complex breed and it would be hard and very long for me to type out full instructions, so I am going to give you a website that I give all my patients to go to and I have heard positive replys from all including myself. Its www.loveyourdog.com and then on the left side you can click tricks and some even come with a video. I hope this has helped and again sorry for the delay. Best wishes and good luck.
