Question
My beagle has been relieving himself in the house and my family says it is time to get rid of him.  He does go outside, but lately wets in the dining room.  Is it too late to train him???

Answer
Hello Angie,
If he is normally trained to go outside and has recently been going inside it may be medical. Normally when they go in odd spots it means they have either a bladder infection or kidney infection. They aren't serious and its not definite. But if he has always had accidents then its just simply because he isn't trained. No, its never to late to train him. We train dogs at our vet and they would put him in a puppy or beginner class. It took my beagle a year and a half to be trained. Did you know that the beagle is one of the most hardest breeds to train? If he does have an infection then you would want to see your vet, keep plenty of fresh clean and cold water available to him at all times. Wait after he 30-45 minutes after he eats and drinks to take him outside. Until you find out if its medical I would purchase the puppy training pads and set at the door so he can use them. Just remember its never to late to teach an old dog a new trick. If you need a follow up please feel free. Best wishes and good luck.
