Biting and Stubborness

Question
I just adopted my dog two weeks ago from an adoption agency. She constantly barks back at me when I say "no" or try to discipline her. She bites, chews, and nibbles on almost anything. I bought her a bone and a chew toy. She does chew on them but sometimes finds other things to chew on. She sometimes even goes for my ankles when I am walking away from her. She was found as a stray and is about 8 months old. She is a mix, and the other half is Basset Hound. She also likes to play the "bully" she will push you out of her way when she wants, its almost like disciplining a spoiled child. She does not really show aggression, but only when I discipline her. Please help.

Answer
It sounds like she doesn't know her place in the pack order. I would suggest that you take her to a training class. You can check your local SPCA, college or pet store for a training class. Training a dog to sit, stay, down and shake is cute but, it also trains your beagle that you are the boss (pack leader).
Make sure that you go outside first and make her wait until go out and she has to follow. Make her sit before she gets a treat or gets dinner. Do not free feed him. You control the food, you control when he goes out and you control treats.
When she learns that she is below you in the pack order I think the problems will work them self out.
