Urinating

Question
We have a 3 yr old beagle named Odie. The family has had many changes over the last 3 years-2 kids and 2 moves. Since we have moved to Houston and had our baby girl, Odie has been urinating everytime I leave the house and forget to put him in the kennel. I stay at home with the kids so he doesn't spend alot of time in the kennel. We do have a fenced in backyard and he goes out to do his business but doesn't like to be out there if we aren't. We try to take him for a walk at night, weather permitting. The problem is I can't even go to the neighbors or be in the front yard without kenneling him because he will urinate. He even urinates if I leave with the kids and my husband stays home. Help!!!!

Answer
Hi Becky!

One thing I can suggest is that you should maybe buy him some diapers, which can be purchased through your vet or at pet stores.

WHEN TO SEE THE VET

While even the best-behaved pet can have accidents, a sudden change for the worse could mean trouble. Pets that are urinating frequently or in all the wrong places could have a bladder infection, diabetes, hormone imbalances or even kidney failure. In addition, there are some breeds, like Dobermans, that are prone to be corrected surgically. Call your vet if any changes in your pet's usual habits persist for more that two days, if urine is discoloured or if it's difficult for him to go.

I would suggest taking him to the vet to get this checked out. It may be mayjor or it may be minor.

I hope this helps and please keep me updated! Sending wagging tails your way! ...Nikki...
