acid reflux?

Question
I have a 3 yr. old Beagle who has recently developed what the vet thinks to be "acid reflux."  In the middle of the night, my Beagle, Lola, would wake up and could not get outside fast enough, where she would start eating grass non-stop. She never vomited, though her stomach felt very tight and appeared to be somewhat swollen.
The vet checked her out and said her stomach seemed ok.  She is now talking a "pepcid type" med before bed and eating a small bit of food or cottage cheese.  She also has cottage cheese in the morning and her regular dog food (Sensitive Stomach Eukanuba) in the evening.
She seems to be doing fine now, but I really don't want her to have to take the medicine for her whole life. She was off it for about a week after being treated for a week, so the vet now has her on a 30 day cycle hopefully to get any irritation/inflamation down.

So is this condition common in Beagles?  Is there anything I should be doing?

Thanks!

Answer
Hello Becky!
I want to apologize for it taking me so long to answer your question. This sounds like acid reflux, but it could be something else. It could be something else.  It could be a stomach bug. Make sure that she has plenty of water at all times. But if her stomach was checked then it can't be serious. Her throat needed to be check juat as much as her stomach. Make sure she isn't on wet food, because things like that will anger the irritation. Usually a sign of reflux is vomitting in a common area so I wouldn't put it passed if that is what it is. Make sure her throat was checked compleatly. I would try changing her food, if possible. Maybe to blue buffalo. That is one of the top of the line brands of dog food. Well I hope I have helped you out a little. The VET has really made the best call on this one, sometimes beagles just vomit. If you need anything don't hesitate to ask me anything else. Good luck and I hope for the best!
